Clady will not be at Denver's mandatory minicamp

With the Broncos reportedly still unsure about the health of left tackle Ryan Clady's shoulder, the two sides haven't come to an agreement on a long-term extension. In reality, they haven't even been talking.

And since Clady still hasn't signed the franchise tag the team placed on him three months ago, it makes sense that Clady will not be at Denver's mandatory minicamp this week.

That's what he told 102.3 ESPN radio (via USA Today) on Monday, though he also said he probably would attend training camp.

But if you're looking for some good news on the Clady front,Ian Rapoport reports that for the first time in 11 months, the Broncos contacted Clady on Monday to talk contract.

Assuming the two sides don't come to an agreement, the camp this week isn't mandatory for Clady since he's unsigned, but with him not being out there with his teammates, this has become somewhat of a major storyline for Denver. Especially since Clady is a three-time Pro Bowler who's protecting the team's biggest asset, Peyton Manning.

Clady isn't yet interested in signing a tag that would pay him a little more than $9.8 million for 2013, but that very well could change when he starts missing sizable weekly checks during the regular season.

Last offseason, Clady's agent and the team were discussing a long-term contract, but the two sides didn't come to an agreement and they broke off talks before training camp. Previously in this offseason, the Broncos weren't interested in moving forward in contract talks until they determined how Clady's shoulder is healing.

But as USA Today points out, “Executive vice president John Elway has repeatedly said this offseason that the team expects to eventually be able to reach a deal with Clady, and that keeping him in Denver is among the team's top priorities.”

The two sides have until July 15 to get a long-term deal done or Clady will have to play the 2013 season under the franchise tag.
