Jones-Drew allegedly was involved in an altercation at a restaurant in St. Augustine

The future of Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is a tad unclear at this point, mostly because of his injury and legal troubles, and he didn't make things any clearer during a 16-minute news conference Monday.

By now, you should know that Jones-Drew allegedly was involved in an altercation at a restaurant in St. Augustine -- he hasn't yet been charged by police, and we don't know if he will be -- and that he played only six games of the 2012 season before undergoing foot surgery.

Maybe he'd like to talk about the former, but at this point, he said he can't.

“It's an unfortunate situation,” Jones-Drew said. “Through my career, I've tried to stay out of the media in [a negative] light and as a distraction to this team.”

But a distraction he's become.

“This is a big distraction, and I never wanted it to be that,” he said. “I never want to be a distraction to this team, period. … About the attention on it, I'm obviously disappointed in that. Not only has it affected the team, it's affected my family.”

Jones-Drew was accused of punching a security guard at the Conch House restaurant during the Memorial Day weekend. No formal charges have been filed, and it's unclear whether they will be.

Since then, two lawyers have come forward saying there's surveillance video from that night that shows Jones-Drew throwing a punch at the guard (if that's the case, it certainly hasn't come out as fast the security cam video with Adam Jones).

Even if he's not charged, Jones-Drew enters the final year of his contract with Jacksonville, and the team might simply decide he's not worth the trouble. The good news: it seems as though he's getting along with new coach Gus Bradley and new general manager Dave Caldwell.

“I've talked more to Gus and Dave than I've talked to any coach and GM in the off-season,” Jones-Drew said. “That's a positive. That's something. The trust we've created through this is going to be better for everybody in the end.”
